Hospitality And Tourism Industry Conference Drew 600 Local High School Students
More than 600 students seeking careers in the tourism industry attended the 17th Annual Student Industry Conference presented by the Academy of Hospitality and Tourism. The conference provides Miami-Dade County high school students who participate in the academy's program an opportunity to attend sessions to help them target their future in the industry as well as interview with local companies for summer internships. Miami Springs Senior wins 18 awards at State Competition!
Miami Springs Senior High School Math State Convention
Miami Springs Senior High School Mu Alpha Theta Math Honor Society attended
State Convention in Orlando April 17-20. Over 1200 serious math students
reprenting 51 schools participated in a series of individual and team tests on
topics ranging from Differential Equations to Matrices and Vectors.
Miami
Springs won 18 awards, including 1st place in scrapbook, 3rd place in

Miami Springs Places 1st and 3rd in Computer Programming Competition
The Dade County Fair and Exposition in conjunction with Miami Dade County Public Schools sponsored a Computer Programming Competition on Saturday, April 12, at the Fair grounds. Miami Springs Senior High School math and computer teacher Sam Koski accompanied ten students to this contest. His Level 2 (Advanced) computer team (Armando Aguilar, Mayra Reyes, Frank Rodriguez, Oscar Sanchez and Evan Williams) won first place. The Level 1 team (Aldo Barreras, Eric Gauzen, David Ibarra, Fiorella Lopez, and Rafael Mendoza) placed third. |

Miami Springs Senior High Silver Knight Nominees
Congratulations to eight members of the senior class of 2008 who represented Miami Springs Senior High School at The Miami Herald Media Company's 50th Annual Silver Knight interviews held at the Sheraton Miami on March 26. These students, in addition to having excellent grade point averages, have participated in extensive community service projects and are active in both school and community. The students and the categories in which they competed include: Maria Rivera, Music; Elizabeth Nickerson, Drama; Jennifer Rodriguez, Journalism; Paola LaCouture, Social Science; Amaya Garcia, English; Edna Gonsales, Foreign Language; Charlie Mata, Science; and Allie Llaneras, Athletics. The Silver Knight coordinator is Beatriz Llerena-Garcia, and the principal is Mr. Rafael Villalobos. |

Miami Springs math teams at Cypress Bay
Eighty-seven students from Miami Springs High School and Middle School braved the torrential downpours on Saturday morning, March 8, along with four teachers, two parents, and two alumni to compete along with 1200
students from South Florida in the Mu Alpha Theta Regional Math Competition held at Cypress Bay High School in Weston, Broward County. They returned with 33 trophies and plaques after the regional competition. ...(continued) |

The boys' tennis team won all of their matches against Miami Central on Thursday, Feb. 28th. Jason Llaneras and Nick Llewelyn are pictured as they won their doubles match 8-0.

Tennis Girls on a roll!
The MSSH Girls' Tennis Team wins again. They have now defeated Northwestern, HML and Miami High. Congratulations to the girls who have practiced hard and demonstrated great teamwork and sportsmanship.
