Welcome to AP Art History!

Dear Students and Parents
I am looking forward to working with all of you this year, and I hope that by the end of this course you will feel
well prepared for the A.P. Exam. I also hope that this will be an enjoyable experience, and that you will develop a
lifelong love and appreciation for art.
The curriculum covers painting, sculpture and architecture from prehistoric art to the present. Students will be
expected to master terminology, recognize specfic works of art, write short and longe essays comparing works
of art, discussing the historical context of artworks, and pointing out significant characteristics.
We must complete the requried material by the end of April in order to allow for reveiw prior to the A.P. test in May.
You are expected to keep up with required reading, take accrurate notes from class lectures, organize your notes
for review, maintain vocabulary/diagram sheets for each section and prepare yourself for exams and quizzes.
Art cards will also be required for each period.
Attendance is extremely important in this class due to the fast pace. It is mandatory that you get copies of handouts
and notes if you are absent.
Unless I have a meeting, I will be available most days after school for make up tests/quizzes and individual or group
tutoring. You may also review slides and use flash cards and other resource materials. I am here to help you succeed;
take advantage of this opportunity.
Please Note:
This is a college level course and therefore contians mature subject matter. College Board requirements dictate
the discussion of world religions in relation to artwork, as well as viewing and studying works depicting the human body.
