Principal’s Message to Students and Parents:

Welcome to the 2009-2010 school year. Miami Springs Senior High School has compiled curriculum information that is extremely important to your child’s four years in high school. The Curriculum Bulletin is your guide to meet State and District requirements for graduation. This will allow you to determine Academy pathways along with graduation majors that the State of Florida has required all students to declare. There is also a plethora of Advanced Placement classes available which will allow students to obtain credit while still attending high school. It is our goal to begin transitioning students that qualify for the dual enrollment programs with colleges and universities both before and during their senior year. We recommend that students and parents read this guide carefully before making decisions on course selection.

This bulletin will showcase Academy strands that focus on Academy of Family and Consumer Science; Academy of Health and Wellness; Academy of Communications and Art in Performance; Academy of Liberal Studies; Academy of Travel and Hospitality, and the Academy of Music and Instrumental Music. These academies will not only promote positive career options, but will keep students motivated and inspired about school. Please take time to review our selection of Honors and Advanced Placement classes. Keep in mind that students in Honors and Advanced Academics are selected by the teachers through a recommendation process. Encourage your son/daughter to perform at optimal levels; this will ensure an academic reward through recommendations for placement into these programs.

Students should be challenged academically as well as socially. We offer an array of District, State, and nationally recognized extra curricular activities which include athletics, band, drama, clubs and honor societies; all students have the ability to tryout, participate, and become an integral part of the school’s extra curricular programs. I highly recommend that all students be involved in an extra curricular activity; this has the potential of instilling leadership abilities and ensuring lasting academic achievement.

The finest programs, teachers, and schools become meaningless without parental support. Keep inspiring your child to attend school regularly and become involved in their academic performance. I urge you to be a member of our EESAC and PTSA. Your support and commitment will allow us to prepare all students to meet the challenges of the 21st Century.

There is nothing that WE cannot accomplish. The school and home are extensions of each another; we need to work as one. Every child must graduate and become a productive member of society. To this end, we have committed the very best curricular, co-curricular, and extra curricular experiences that will guide them throughout their high school career.

The entire faculty at Miami Springs Senior High School welcomes you into our Golden Hawk family. We promote and support excellence; ours will be a partnership that will ensure the fulfillment of your child’s goals and expectations by providing rigor and relevance daily.

Sincerely,

Thomas P. Ennis
